FISHING • While in Mexico... Fish! Whether you go it on your own with a pangaro or grab a couple of friends, it is always a magnificent trip. These clear blue waters are host to some of the world's best in fishing and from Manzanillo to Lazero Cardenas there aren't any large marinas, so no over-fishing here. Marlin, Dorado and Sailfish, to name some of the bigger game fish, are abundant. While there are a lot of smaller fish to catch as well, and tasty too, the experience itself is its own reward. Most times you will come into contact with creatures you don't want to catch. Like turtles or whales... but a clear and extraordinary view of natures. Ah, que bueno! Charters can be arranged out of El Faro, a 20 - 30 minute drive from Rancho Buganvilias, and we can help you arrange a trip too.
SNORKELING • Feel like putting on the goggles and fins? Well, the clear and tranquil waters of El Faro is a perfect place to do some snorkeling. A picturesque cove with yellow sand and blue-green water is the home of many colorful tropical fish. For the more experienced snorkeler, there is also a sunken steamship from the turn of the 20th century that can be explored. Islands just off the shore and the reefs below make for a beautiful experience. El Faro also has many enramada restaurants serving up local seafood. So why not make a day of it! You will not be disappointed. El Faro is a 20 - 30 minute drive from Ranchos Buganvilias.
LA TICLA - WHERE SURFING IS KING • Like to surf or know someone who does? La Ticla is the place for you! Perfect wave after perfect wave come rolling into the point of La Ticla. A river mouth empties it's clean fresh water into the ocean and a lot of birds visit as well. It is known as a world class surfing spot, so even if you are not inclined to wax up your board, it is really great to watch those guys and girls that do. You will be witness to some of the best surfers Mexico has to offer on any given day as well as the folks who travel from many different countries just to surf this point. A sight to be seen for sure! Of course there are enramada restaurants here as well, so eat, drink and be merry as you watch some of the best surf in Mexico come marching in. La Ticla is a 15 - 20 minute drive from Rancho Buganvilias.
SAN JUAN DE ALIMA • The quaint beach town just to the north of us is a fun little jaunt. It is largely a town for tourists and has many hotels and restaurants. There is also some fun shopping. Recently there has been an influx of folks from Canada and the US who have built homes on this beautiful beach. It is similar to the beach at Rancho Buganvilias, a good flat walking beach and easy to enjoy. The lookouts of Las Brisas and San Juan de Alima have some folks jumping off and experiencing the free flight of paragliding. The colorful paragliders flying overhead must have the best view of all!
COLIMA CITY • With its aged and chic patina, Colima City is one of the best city trips you can make. A colonial town built in the 1500s, it is home to many beautiful churches, public buildings and jardins. You can get a very fine "city meal" here and the shopping is great! The capital of our neighbor state, Colima, the smallest state in Mexico, is also one of the richest. This is reflected in the well maintained ambiance of the community and also in the people who live there. It is surrounded by ranches and haciendas and located at the foot of the twin volcanos, Fire and Ice. It also has a Sam's Club and Walmart! What more can I say... Colima City is about 1.5 hours from Rancho Buganvilias.
VOLCANOS • As you may know the twin volcanos, Fire & Ice, are at home in the state of Colima. Fire, one of Latin America's only active volcanos, rests majestically next to sister volcano, Ice. Ice is not active but does have a snow cap at its peak and both are extremely beautiful. One smoking and the other glistening white. To visit the volcanos would be an overnight trip and can be arranged by Rancho Buganvilias, or you can do your own research and choose a place to stay. The foot of the volcanos is about 3 hours from Rancho Buganvilias.
GUADALAJARA • Beautiful and historic Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city, is more than a day trip away. It takes about 4 hours from Rancho Buganvilias and as you may know, has everything a world class city should have. As a visitor you may want to see the historic center where the governor's palace is still home to the current governor or maybe you want to do some shopping. A wonderful dinner and peaceful sleep can all be enjoyed in this fantastic city.
